High-Tech Fitness

Too often, people trying to lose weight focus on cardio and forget (or perhaps don't know) what lifting weights can do for a body.  Not only can you raise your metabolism, you can also improve your body's strength, power, fitness, endurance, and lean body tissue.  It even helps strengthen your bones and improve your posture.  And it slices!  It dices!  Oops...got carried away there.

Getting Started

Before you get to work on your routine, you'll want to keep a few key points in mind:

  1. Always warm up before you start lifting weights.  This helps prevent injury.
  2. Lift and lower your weights slowly.  Don't use momentum, don't swing anything other than the appendage you're working and, for pete's sake, don't use too much weight.
  3. Breathe.  Don't hold your breath and make sure you're using full range of the motion throughout the movement.
  4. Stand up straight!  If your mother could see you now, why she'd probably slap a book on your head.  Pay attention to your posture and keep everything nice and tight.
